Tea Tree oil is often an ingredient in soaps, creams, lotions, disinfectants and air fresheners
Tea tree oil’s Latin name is Melaleuca Alternifolia, and it is extracted by steam distilling the leaves of the tree. The name Melaleuca is said to have derived from the Greek words ‘melos’ meaning dark/black and ‘leukon’ meaning white. This name was given as the first species discovered had a white, papery bark and a black lower trunk.
Today, it is known as a “miracle oil” because it works on all levels of infections.
Tea Tree oil is considered a safe oil, however it can cause sensitivity in some individuals (this only happens if the oil is old and/or has oxidized).
There are countless uses for the oil, most pertaining to the skin and respiratory system. You probably know that it is a great way to treat acne, lice, nail fungus and Athlete’s foot, however there are many other fantastic uses!

*Please note that all essential oils are extremely potent and need to be respected. Always make sure you dilute the oils you use. You also don’t need a lot of the oil to reap it’s benefits and it’s always wise to err on the side of caution, especially when using oils on or around small children, elderly or people with underlying health conditions. When in doubt, always consult a Certified Aromatherapist before use.*
