Grapefruit Essential Oil

Hello again!

In our last post we talked about one of the commonly used types of Eucalyptus essential oil. If you missed that one, you can find it here, and as promised, this time we will be focusing on a rather invigorating citrus oil, Grapefruit essential oil. Also known as Citrus Paradisi.

Originally, the Grapefruit tree originates in Asia, however now it is also grown in many other countries such as Brazil, France and the United States.

There are two varieties of Grapefruit essential oil available, one being a white grapefruit and the other being a pink one. Of the two, the pink one tends to be slightly sweeter smelling although both have a rather sweet and refreshing scent.
It is a known fact that citrus essential oils tend to have a shorter shelf life than many of the other essential oils, and out of all of the citrus oil however, Grapefruit tends to have the shortest shelf life, so it’s wise to always store this one in the fridge.

Precautions: Exposure to UV rays may irritate the skin within two hours of application.

Most of the uses for this particular essential oil revolve around stimulating and/or invigorating. For instance, Grapefruit oil helps to balance congested skin, it’s quite useful in treating acne, and an overall fantastic toner for the skin. Not only that, but it’s also said to help stimulate an appetite as well as the lymphatic system. Some of my personal favorite uses for Grapefruit essential oil are centered around the mind and brain. This essential oil is very uplifting and reviving for the mind an helps balance the central nervous system, and it’s great in dealing with nervous exhaustion and fatigue. And it smells ahh-mazing!

I look forward to seeing you all again in a couple weeks when we will focus on one of the many floral essential oils!
