Spring Cleaning…there’s an oil for that!

It’s that time of year again, time for the annual Spring clean. Whether it’s because with the increase in sunlight that we seem to be able to see dust and dirt in the home more easily. Or whether it’s simply because the longer, and (usually) warmer days act as a stimulant in getting us more active. The fact remains, every year, around this time we start the annual Spring clean.

Over the past few years, more and more people are becoming aware of just how harmful and full of chemicals most conventional cleaners are. Which begs the question, what some better alternatives are? Thankfully there are a lot of effective, and safe alternatives. There’s even a whole bunch of essential oils that are great for Spring Cleaning!

For this year’s Spring Clean, ditch the conventional cleaners and reach for some essential oils instead!

Have a look at some of the great alternatives to conventional cleaners below. Not only will these get the job done, but they’ll smell great in the process! You can say goodbye to the smell of harsh chemicals assaulting your nose.

Bathroom Tile Cleaner

Bathroom tiles can be the worst to clean! All that soap scum tends to build up and require a bit of elbow grease to get rid of again. When it comes time to Spring clean your tiles this year, give this quick recipe a try. This recipe utilizes the gentle scrubbing power of baking soda. As well as the grime cutting ability of Lemon essential oil, and the antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties of Tea Tree essential oil.
1/2 cup baking soda
water (just enough to form a paste)
8 drops Lemon essential oil
6 drops Tea Tree essential oil
Mix the water and baking soda together in a little bowl to form a paste, then add essential oils and use an old toothbrush to really clean between all the tiles!

Carpet Cleaner and Deodorizer

Our Carpets see a lot of traffic over the year, so it comes as no surprise that sometimes they could use a little extra focus to help eliminate odors and freshen up the room. Baking soda is known for it’s ability to absorb unwanted odors, while our West Coast blend will help to freshen your carpet and kill off any bacteria or germs that may be lingering.
Give this a try the next time before you vacuum.
1/2 cup baking soda
10 drops West Coast Essential oil blend
Mix together in a little bowl, or glass shaker and sprinkle over carpet. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then just vacuum as normal. This blend will help to freshen the air, remove lingering odors out of your carpet and kill of any germs that may be lingering. It can also be used to freshen up your mattress, simply sprinkle on, let it sit and vacuum it off!

All Purpose Cleaner

This one doesn’t just come in handy for Spring cleaning, but year round too. Quick and easy to prepare, and thanks to the vinegar, it’s quite shelf stable as well.
2 cups white Vinegar
1 cup water
20 drops of Conquer
Mix all three ingredients together in a dark glass spray bottle. Use it just like you would any other all purpose cleaner!

Even though all of the above recipes use only natural ingredients, it’s always a good practice to keep them out of reach of kids and pets. For those who have pets, try to keep them in a separate room from the one you’re cleaning. And give the room a bit of time to air out before allowing the pet back in. Their little bodies simply can’t process essential oils the way we can.
